Ever found yourself trapped
Do you ever find yourself thinking, “arghh why is it always me that has to… … for me it would be wash the clothes… do the dishes…tidy the home… you get it, the things that are always there. They never. Ever. Go away.
I was trapped in this spiral for a decade or more.
An endless loop of ‘why me’.
Until one day I heard someone talking about the concept of ‘personal responsibility’ – the idea that my life and what was happening in it (or not!) was my responsibility.
But really?
Who else was going to make sure school uniforms were ready?
Or …….
There were things that just had to be done. And I seemed to be the one.
Or was I?
Was my complaining {often just in my head} a sign that things needed to change?
Maybe?
So, I started to delegate (even little things) like the dishwasher emptying.
And to my surprise the kids obliged.
Why hadn’t I done this earlier?
I also started to delete from the list and learnt to say ‘no’.
Motherhood is a leadership role.
It starts with knowing ourselves and knowing what we need.
And then asking for it.
I love this concept of personal responsibility now. It empowers me. Any time I’m feeling resentful or stuck, I ask myself if there’s something I need to change.
Often there is.
Sometimes I find myself changing how I am thinking about it and that is enough to shift the resentment.
Also, I remind myself that life is seasons and this one will pass.
What season are you in at the moment?
With love,
